LABcampZ Curriculum

What’s the LabCampz recipe for truly memorable summer adventures?  First, we mix non-stop, action-packed, hands-on learning experiences with loads of fun.  Then we blend in exciting destinations, fantastic facilities, fascinating facts and kid-customized content.  The result is the most amazing, unforgettable summer day camp experience this side of the Mississippi!

The unique LabCampz learning format allows for a structured, but flexible and meaningful experience built on the enthusiasm and interests of your camper.  Our focus areas include art, food, history, math, media, music, sports and technology.  We explore these areas of interest at on-site Science & Technology labs, Visual & Performing Arts studios, and sports facilities, as well as at numerous off-campus destinations that relate to each week’s theme.

Take a peak at what’s included in a typical week at LabCampz . . .

MONDAY
Each week begins with students creating their own culinary masterpiece.  Campers learn how to measure, mix and cook a variety of foods that relate to the weekly theme (dietary restrictions/limitations/preferences are happily accommodated).  Cooking adventures provide a great way for kids to interact and get to know one another, establishing an atmosphere of comfort and collaboration.

LabCampers are then immersed in the theme for the week using various learning activities.  These might include a lesson taught by one of our credentialed teachers in the Vernier-equiped science lab, followed by a documentary video, supported with computer-based research and a hands-on project.

TUESDAY, WEDNESDAY, and THURSDAY
The three core days of each week are dedicated to experiential learning.  Off-campus adventures provide real-world, up-close looks at the amazing and diverse resources of San Diego County, and BEYOND!

Tuesday and Thursday field trips often get campers back to campus around 1 pm, allowing time for additional research, hands-on projects and incredible discovery.

Wednesdays are typically the BIG field trip day, where kids visit exciting destinations like PetCo Park to see the Padres, Sea World, the San Diego ZOO, LEGOland, and even Disneyland’s California Adventure!  These bigger trips often include unforgettable behind-the-scenes experiences, and may have a pick-up time that is later than usual.  See Schedule for details.

FRIDAY
On the last day of the week campers typically remain on the beautiful campus of Encinitas Country Day School (ECDS) and complete their investigations and projects related to the weekly theme.  Each child’s imagination and interests are reflected in their unique approach to the subject matter, with  LabCampz teachers supporting campers’ in their individual endeavors.  Once research, projects and presentations are completed, students enjoy trips down our GIANT “Hurricane” water slide, a 27 foot high monstrosity that ensures everyone ends the week on a wet, and exciting note!

The Hurricane!
